Booda Butter: No, It's Not For Your Toast

I subscribe to Pure Citizen, which is a company/mailing list that offers discounts on different "green" products. Some weeks, you'll see organic cotton clothing. Some weeks, beauty products. Point is, if you love "eco" and "green" companies, this is a great way to find some of the lesser known brands, and get awesome discounts on the best knowns. So, if you haven't already, I urge you to join the Pure Citizen email list.. because that is how I found Booda Butter.

How can you not fall in love with the joyous Buddha and a slogan like "Spread the Love"?? I did, immediately. And then I went to their website to explore the company, Booda Organics, and products even more.

Turns out that Booda Butter, their star product, is something I would naturally gravitate to. It contains a simple list of organic ingredients. So, what's in it?

Shea butter, cocoa butter, jojoba oil, coconut oil, and olive oil. (all food grade and organic, as well)

That's my kind of simplicity. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it.

And so it arrived, a decent sized metal tin of goodness. It came carefully packaged to prevent melting (which I would understand once I tried the product).

You see, I've tried many "body butters." Most have been pretty thick lotions/creams.. but creams, nonetheless. THAT is not Booda Butter. It is a true butter.

I opened the lid and took a big whiff. The cocoa butter was definitely the star smell; with the ever subtle aroma of the tanning lotions of my youth. Definitely enjoyable, and definitely not strong enough that it would compete with any fragrance you may be wanting to wear.

So, I went in for a test run. As soon as my finger touched the product, I knew why they called it butter. It felt like touching a stick of hard butter. Since I was anticipating something more creamy, I was surprised. And no sooner did I get a little bit of product on my finger.. it started to melt on my skin.
After contemplating the best way to show this 'melting' in snap shots, I decided to apply it slowly to the tattoo on my arm. (A Buddhist mantra.. so sort of appropriate.) And yes, I used far more than I really needed, just so that it would it show up on camera.

After barely rubbing it to one side with just a finger tip, you can see how it's already melting on my skin like a pat of butter on warm toast.

Within 30 seconds, it had completely melted and absorbed into my skin:

Yes, when it first started to melt, it felt like I had a bunch of grease on my arm. The amazing part, though, was how quickly it absorbed into my skin. I didn't feel slick or oily after. Just super moisturized.. and it gave my tattoo and nice, new sheen.

I didn't stop there. I read Booda Organic's List of Uses, and decided to give it a whirl on my pup, Bristow.

All winter, she's had pretty dry skin.. with large flakes in her fur. So, I took some Booda Butter onto my fingertips, let it melt a little, then started to rub it under her coat. She thoroughly enjoyed the massage, and the smell of the butter. She wouldn't stop licking my hands once I was done. But from a dog that hates when when oils/sprays are put on her, which she usually makes obvious by running and rolling around and trying to get it off, she didn't mind Booda Butter one bit.

And the following day, there were definitely fewer flakes in her fur.

As far as humans go.. from about a week's worth of use, I can tell you that it's all but gotten rid of some dry patches on my face, that were caused by some medications I was on. My feet are soft. My cuticles look better than they have in a long time. And my back no longer itches from dryness after each shower.

Not bad for the end of the winter.

So, if you looking for a truly natural and simple product, that will provide enough moisture to get you through winter, and won't be so greasy you can't use it for summer, you should give Booda Butter a try.. because honestly, it just works. And as a big bonus, it's completely vegan and cruelty-free; and proudly displays the Leaping Bunny and Certified Vegan logos.

That, and it looks super cute sitting on your sink...
Spread the Love!
